This is a Christian fiction book that is pretty good. The first half of the book is EXCELLENT, very very romantic. The second half is okay but not great. I would read it again someday just because the first half is sooooo good.Product details

Mr Shipley Governess The Shipley Legacy Book 1 edition by Joanne Troppello Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Sophie’s Irish American parents are dead, and Sebastian Shipley’s motherless nine-year-old needs a tutor. It’s a match made in the classifieds, unless perhaps God has something to do with it. But Sophie’s not on speaking terms with God at the moment, while precocious Ana insists, “I know God doesn’t get tired of hearing me speak.” Perhaps the words from the mouths of a babe really could be good advice for everyone.
Words and thoughts from the Bible weave through this novel beautifully, offering a natural image of God’s love for the children he teaches. Sophie doesn’t trust that love at the start, and wonders how others can have “such peace and assurance in God” while their worlds fall apart. “She still stood at the bottom of the ladder—too afraid to climb to the top and jump into her Father’s waiting arms.” Meanwhile Sebastian’s faith faces trials, and his growing affection for the young governess threatens the walls he’s placed around his heart.
The road to romance takes this couple from the US to England, via Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, big business, high society, beautiful distractions, and a very sweet small girl. The dialog is pleasing and fun, Ana is truly delightful, and anyone who loves Europe will rejoice in sharing the family’s travels... and with their dreams “The dream is real and with God at the center,” says Sebastian, and all things will become possible.

Love, in all its shades, is featured in Joanne Troppello’s charming story Mr. Shipley’s Governess. From loss to found, bleak to blooming, selfish to generous, and everything in between.
If Mr. Shipley’s Governess was a painting the nuances of light and shade would be amazing. Mr. Shipley’s Governess is an Inspirational romance and the character’s faith and attitude towards God is an integral party of the story. Ms. Troppello offers up three main characters two adults and a child, Sebastian Shipley, his daughter Anastasia and Sophie Baird, all with flaws, emotional and/or physical, and weaves a delightful story of how loss turns to discovery and then belief and reaffirmation, both in love of each other and in their faith and their God.
The author’s writing style carried this reader right into the events of her characters. Family is all, and the inclusion of the governess changes the dynamics for all of them in ways none anticipated.
Sebastion Shipley is a believable mixture of strong and vulnerable, but someone who can easily allow himself to be lead down the wrong path long enough to throw a major spanner in the works.
Ana, Anastasia, is a child, who, from circumstances and faith, is wise beyond her years. The author wove the essence of Ana into and through the story with charming skill and integrity of the child. But, Ms. Troppello never allows the reader to forget that Ana is still a child, and includes some wonderful cameo scenes for her.
Sophie Baird is what in Regency times would be called a ‘watering pot’, she’s a crier. If I have a niggle with this story it is the number of times Sophie cries. But then, in real life, I have seen men who love a fragile woman they can protect, and you see this blossom in Sebastion.
Sentences such as …‘Sophie locked his kind words in the bank of her heart and savored them.’ …is a wonderful insight to Sophie’s yearning to belong, while…‘More than he cared to admit, he’d thought about Sophie often.’ .. caught me off guard and caused an interruption in an otherwise beautifully smooth and delightful read.
Ms. Troppello vivid writing takes her readers from America to London and Bath before crossing the waters to Ireland. Every setting came across as immediate and realistic. I have read stories, many of them, set in places I’ve never visited, and have gone along with the descriptions, but in Mr. Shipley’s Governess I felt as though I was a member of their party, sharing the experiences as her characters saw them.
Mr. Shipley’s Governess is written with depth of character, intense emotions, and an awesome dexterity to carry the reader to several different destinations with equal vibrancy, all of which show the author’s characters in every facet of their personalities.
If you enjoy stories that include family, romance and travel then Mr. Shipley’s Governess is a book worth reading. If you enjoy a well written book, then why not consider reading Mr. Shipley’s Governess before finding more books by Joanne Troppello?
Disclaimer I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Sophie recently lost her parents to a terrible accident, and she's working to move forward with her life and get past it. However, she's now holding a grudge against God for taking away her loved ones, and she doesn't know if her faith will ever be restored. To help fill her days, she accepts a position as a tutor for Little Miss Anastasia at the bequest of Ana's father, Sebastian. Ana's mother passed not too long ago, as well, and although Sophie is only supposed to be the little girl's teacher, her presence starts to fill a much larger role in the lives of father and daughter. Will these two be able to bring Sophie back into God's light? And will her involvement with Ana spark something more with Sebastian?
This was a very quaint story that brought me back to the time of Jane Austen, who is Sophie's favorite author. It flows very well, the characters have a great development and relationship to one another, and you really get the feeling that Sebastian is head over heels for his daughter and she has him wrapped around her little finger. There are trials and tribulations throughout for all the major characters, and it's a wonder to see how it brings them all together, shaping their futures as they're linked to one another. If you're looking for a romantic story with God at the center, this is the one for you.
4 stars
Both Sebastian and Sophie suffered a loss in their lives. Together they find healing and love again. It is a beautiful story of a loving God who is full of grace and mercy. It was very difficult to put the book down. You will laugh and you will cry. I can't wait for the next book to come out in this series.
This is a Christian fiction book that is pretty good. The first half of the book is EXCELLENT, very very romantic. The second half is okay but not great. I would read it again someday just because the first half is sooooo good.
